If you are looking to alter the structure of your property or rebuild it altogether, Contour Architectural Designs will carry out a measured survey of your site and existing building(s) and record the information. The full extent of the survey required is dependent on the scale of the project you are proposing. Site surveys are detailed studies carried out to supplement and verify site information provided by you the client and site appraisals carried out by the design team at Contour Architectural Designs during the initial consultation.

Once a measured survey has been completed, Contour Architectural Designs can use the survey to design your proposals and provide you with a set of detailed architectural plans and elevations . Whether you are looking for a small extension or a brand new house, CAD is here to help guide you through the ideas process. Design Your Home, Build Your Castle!

Where applicable, site surveys will be conducted by the design team, but on occasions we may need to commission extended surveys using specialist external surveying contractors.  The design team will assess what surveys are required (generally after the initial Client Brief and feasibility studies have been carried out), and after consultation and approval from you the client.

Contour Architectural Designs can also work to obtain Ordnance Survey maps in formats that work with our design software, and which are used to locate your site, denote ownership boundaries, rights of way and other useful information to accompany the survey notes. These can be used to provide indicative site information for planning applications, as well as for Land Registry conveyancing purposes should you later decide to sell your plot of land.

Site surveys might include:

  • Existing buildings (including valuation, measured surveys, structural surveys, structural investigations, condition surveys and demolition surveys).
  • Topographical surveys.
  • Contamination.
  • Ecological survey.
  • Archaeological (see archaeology).
  • Traffic and transport.
  • Flood risk.
  • Air quality.
  • Acoustic.
  • Photographic.
  • Historic use.
  • Boundary surveys.
  • Structural surveys (including retained structures, underground structures and obstructions).
  • Asbestos and other hazardous materials surveys and registers.
  • Foul sewers and drains infrastructure and capacity.
  • Existing water supply infrastructure and capacity.
  • Soil survey.

Wherever possible, Contour Architectural Designs will ensure that any information prepared or obtained will be in a format which can be readily shared and used by email in an instant, and will be consistent with the long-term project and operational needs.
